Famous Firm Swanke Hayden Connell Files for Bankruptcy

This notorious firm established in 1906 has certainly earned its reputable name by performing a major restoration of the Statue of Liberty in the 1980s and from their work on the Trump Tower in Upper East Manhattan. It turns out that the firm has just filed for Chapter 11 protection, failing to collect over $2 million from an assignment in Russia. Happy Birthday Jan Kaplický, World-Renowned Architect

April 18, 2015 would have been this famous architect’s 78th birthday. Kaplický was the leading architect behind Future Systems, the London-based architectural and design practice who focused on Bionic Architecture, or as some refer to “Blobitecture.” Kaplický was known for always pursuing the newest designs and ideas, and didn’t settle into any comfortable or predictable architectural niche. Honoring Michael Graves, the Famous Architect

The Founding Principal of Michael Graves Architecture & Design has passed on March 12. The postmodernist architect and New York Five member designed everything from towers to teakettles, and is known for transforming the role of architects and designers. Mr. Graves redefined modernism in the 1970s and went on to design over 350 buildings around the world. The firm is celebrating its 50th anniversary with an exhibition at the Grounds for Sculpture in Hamilton, N.J., which was on view until April 5, 2015.
